About Me

Hi! I'm Mike, nice to meet you. I'm a product designer with over 9 years experience designing software for all kinds of places. I draw on my background in journalism and architecture to create informed, empathetic, and well crafted products for my users.

Studying architecture in Post Katrina New Orleans taught me to design by creating a dialogue with the community. I like to compare it to performing an organ transplant. You could get the best surgeon around, but if the organ isn't a good match for the patient, the level of craft isn't enough. I see product design similarly, we need to focus both on the information architecture (UX) of our experience as much as we do on the look and feel (UI). Utilizing research to accomplish these objectives is key.

By focusing on both of these things, I've been fortunate enough to have done it all. From prototypes and user testing, to pixel perfect designs to white-boarding to design sprints and workshops.

About Lifion

Our organization is a small group within ADP, which is one of the largest HR and payroll software companies in the world. We are redesigning and rebuilding ADP’s existing applications through a low-code platform. This platform is replacing how our developers – and eventually our clients – build HR apps. Instead of writing traditional code, applications are built in a drag and drop interface. This will allow our products to be scalable, and easier to customize for our clients.

My Role

As a senior product designer on our UX team, I am responsible for supporting multiple development teams. I work with Senior Solution Architects (or Product Owners) to solve complex development problems by helping define product requirements and setting UX timelines. I own the end-to-end design process from discovery - build on a suite of cross-platform tools, working with developers to ensure my solutions are buildable. Within the UX team, I aid team members through design feedback, balancing the importance of designing within our design system with the need to create new design components.

Isobar Hackathons

At Isobar, my previous company, I co-organized and ran a beloved hackathon for multiple years in a row. Check out one of our highlight reels:
